Why is social media marketing not effective?

    Reason #1: You’re impatient

Sometimes, you aren't doing anything wrong and might be impatient. Many social media pages take months to reach virality. The presence of "viral hits" has convinced many marketers to assume that overnight success is the only type of success. Social media campaigns should not be measured against such unfair standards.

The success of your social media campaign isn't about how quickly you gain followers. It's about reaching a consistent state of growth. It's okay if you aren't getting millions of views on every post, and what matters is that every post means a new potential lead following your brand. Just steel through the wait, and don't force virality if it's inorganic.

Reason #2: Wrong on the wrong Platform

It doesn't hurt to have your campaign eggs in different baskets. After all, you never know where you'll find success. Still, you need to set priorities. Specific social media platforms benefit certain businesses better. For example, tech companies are more likely to find success on Twitter, where they can spice up your social media strategy.

Facebook and Instagram are far more reliable for restaurants, wellness food brands, beauty, etc. due to the built-in messenger features. Also, supporting more images means more pictures to showcase the different food items you have. Pinterest is a platform that many forget about. Although not a social media platform but rather a visual search engine, we've found that many of our clients find great success on Pinterest, especially if they are e-commerce businesses. That's because 85% of Pinners have used Pinterest to plan for or make purchases.

When marketing your brand, always prioritize the platforms that best suit your business needs and demographics. Putting your efforts on a sinking ship will leave you with the wet clothes of failure.

    Reason #3: Lack of Focus

In addition to the right platform, you need to target the right audience. Targeted marketing is most effective on a social media platform. FB does everything for you; your ads will automatically be shown to relevant people and establish your Facebook presence. So why is your campaign failing to reach the numbers you want? Simple, you're being too broad.

Automated targeted ads can only get you so far. You still need to generate organic growth via word-of-mouth. And that won't happen if your target demographic is not interested in your product. In such cases, immediately shift your focus to finding the right demographic to grow.

Reason #4: You're not posting enough (or you're posting too much)

The time factor is essential for posts. People need to know when you'll post on a consistent schedule. For example, new promotions every Monday should be done at a constant time at a consistent pace. For example, if you are a pizza place, make it a habit to have a different pizza flavor on sale on a specific day during lunch. That way, people stay tuned to your page and get far more engagement.

You won't get far if you only post when you feel like it. The algorithm on social media always rewards consistent posters. Keep up with trends as well; if there's a hot new meme going around, get on it before it fades away. Always ask the younger staff if something is "cool" or not. You don't want to be the business that ends up on r/FellowKids on Reddit.

Reason #5: Your Ads are not interesting, relevant or Invasive

If your posts seem desperately grabbing attention, they are far less likely to succeed. An example of this failure comes from the publishers of the gaming franchise Hello NeighbortinyBuild, as the company is called, would aggressively tag the creator MatPat of Game Theory fame to bring audiences to their new animated series.

Suffice it to say, it did not work for them. Instead, their desperation was viciously made fun of by the internet. This is not how you want to come off to people. Invasive ads imply that your business is struggling. You must communicate to audiences that your offerings are naturally worth their time. Good people will come with the right push if your product is good.

    Conclusion

Social media is a fickle platform. One minute you might be doing so poorly that you want to give up. Next thing you know, one of your posts gets viral, and you suddenly have an influx of new followers. Or the other way around might happen. Either way, your best asset in finding success in your social media campaigns is learning from your mistakes.
